The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is pleased to announce the 2014 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF), to harness the leadership capacity of exchange program alumni worldwide. The competition provides the more than one million current alumni of United States government-sponsored exchange programs opportunities to form partnerships with one another and tackle a broad range of global issues at the local, national, regional, and international levels.

AEIF awards up to $25,000 to winning teams of alumni to fund their innovative projects based on issues such as education, gender, the environment, development, women’s training, entrepreneurship, interfaith understanding, and many more. During the 2013 competition, alumni submitted approximately 700 project proposals, of which 53 were selected. Winning teams, including a Ukrainian group imparting social entrepreneurship skills to the visually impaired and a Yemeni group raising awareness of environmental issues among underserved youth, are already achieving measurable results.

ECA’s Alumni Affairs Division invites alumni to submit proposals on the International Exchange Alumni website at https://alumni.state.gov between April 1 and April 23, 2014. The Alumni Affairs Division will announce AEIF award winners in late June. Please visit https://alumni.state.gov/aeif to learn more about the submission process.

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ mission is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchange. Join the conversation on Twitter and Facebook.
