Topic: Taiwan’s Growing Market for Healthy Foods

Date, time, time zone for call: Thursday, April 17, 2014; 7:00 p.m. EDT (April 18, 2014; 7:00 a.m. local)

Brief Description of call: With increasing awareness of the impact of lifestyle on health and an aging population, consumption of natural and health food in Taiwan has grown significantly in recent years. More organic and natural food stores are opening throughout Taiwan, and the U.S. export potential is substantial given the fact that Taiwan is the United States 7th largest market for food exports. Over the past three years, the Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) has received a 30% increase in the number of trade inquiries for healthy/natural/organic foods. Consumers in Taiwan are name-brand conscious, giving U.S. companies a chance to take significant market share for these types of products. Taiwan is also an ideal place for U.S. exporters to test organic/natural products for the mainland China market. The event will feature discussion by AIT Director Christopher J. Marut and a panel of three experts on healthy food trends in Taiwan and will be followed by a question and answer session. Panelists include Eugene Wang, General Manager of Super Elephant, one of the top importers of healthy food in Taiwan; Ellen Yin, owner of the Taipei’s Florida Bakery and former Director of the Taipei Bakery Association; and Vincent Chang, Chief Operating Officer, Pacific freshONE Co.

Deadline for RSVPs: Wednesday, April 16, 2014
