Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel will meet with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Defence Minister David Johnston at the U.S. Department of State on November 20 for annual consultations at the Australia–U.S. Ministerial (AUSMIN).

AUSMIN is the principal forum for bilateral consultations between the United States and Australia. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss ways in which the two countries can expand and deepen Alliance cooperation in the Asia–Pacific region and issues affecting global security.

The meetings will begin with a dinner the night of November 19, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony the morning of November 20.

At the conclusion of the day's discussions, Secretaries Kerry and Hagel will join Ministers Bishop and Johnston for the signing of a Statement of Principles that affirms the shared intent to promote and expand defense and security cooperation in furtherance of the mutual commitment to a stable and peaceful Asia–Pacific and Indian Ocean region.

The signing will be followed by a joint press conference in the Department of State’s Benjamin Franklin Room.

Press coverage of the day’s events is as follows:

8:30 a.m. Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, and Australian Minister of Defense David Johnston participate in a full honor wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

The wreath-laying will be open press coverage and begin at 8:30 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.

Pre set for all media: 7:15 a.m. at the main gate on Memorial Drive

Additional arrival instructions: All media should meet on Memorial Drive at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, 22211 by 7:15 a.m. and provide their name and media organization to the security guards at the main gate on Memorial Drive. A public affairs representative will meet media at the escort location and escort them into and out of the cemetery. All media must provide their own transportation.

Media representatives interested in attending either of these events may attend upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
