Date: 11/11/2013 Description: Veterans Month 2013: Michael Liburd - State Dept Image Michael Liburd, Petty Officer First Class, U.S. Coast Guard (retired), spent 25 years and 9 months on active duty in the Coast Guard and U.S. Army, serving in such capacities as member of the Armed Forces Joint Ceremonial Honor Guard; a military aide for the U.S. Coast Guard Office of Congressional Affairs; as coordinator, Passports & Visa Service, U.S. Coast Guard Office of International Affairs; investigator, U.S. Sector Baltimore Office of Intelligence and Investigations; a wire systems/installer operator at Fort Gordon, Georgia after completing boot camp at Fort Knox, KY.

Over his distinguished career, Petty Officer Liburd earned over 21 ribbons and medals including (7) Coast Guard Good Conduct Awards, U.S. Coast Guard Achievement Medal, U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal, U.S. Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Expert Pistol and Sharpshooter Medal, two Presidential Unit Citations, 9/11 Presidential Unit Award, a host of other ribbons and medals finally receiving the U.S. Coast Guard Commendation Medal at his retirement ceremony.

Retired in 2008, he was hired as one of two operations officers for the Houston Passport Agency and since 2010 has served in the same capacity at the Detroit Passport Agency.
