The Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) announces the construction award, through best value determination, of the new U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo, Suriname to B.L. Harbert International of Birmingham, Alabama.

This project, designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects of Portland, Oregon, will provide safe, secure, and modern facilities for embassy employees. The new complex will be situated on an eight-acre site in the Morgenstond neighborhood and will include a chancery office building, support annex with maintenance facilities and a warehouse, a utility building, and perimeter security.

OBO’s mission is to provide safe, secure, and functional facilities that represent the U.S. Government to the host nation and support our staff in the achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives. These facilities should represent American values and the best in American architecture, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, culture, and construction execution.
