On Friday, October 11, 2013, at 3 p.m. the United States Department of State’s Office of Authentications will relocate its operations to 600 19th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20006 from its current location at 518 23rd Street, NW, SA-1, Columbia Plaza, Washington, DC 20520. The Office of Authentications will reopen to the public on Wednesday, October 16, at 8 a.m.

The new facility, located four blocks from Farragut West Metro (Orange and Blue lines), will have an expanded lobby and more than double the number of service windows to assist customers.

The Office of Authentications provides signed certificates of authenticity for a variety of documents to individuals, institutions and government agencies. The Office of Authentications will continue to provide both walk-in and mail-in services. Drop-off and pick-up services will be available Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays) between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Customers seeking urgent same-day services must meet the following criteria and schedule an appointment with an Authentications Specialist:

  • the documents submitted for authentication are the customer’s personal documents and do not belong to a third party;
  • the customer is scheduled for international travel and can show proof of international travel within 24-48 hours;
  • or it is a life or death emergency.

Appointments are available between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Customers may call the Office of Authentications at 202-261-8081 (until relocation) and 202-485-8000 (after relocation) to schedule an appointment with an Authentications Specialist or to check on the status of their case.
