Topic: Opportunities in Kenya’s Energy and Power Generation Sectors

Host: U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec

Date, time, time zone for call: Thursday, December 5, 2013; 10:00 a.m. EST (6:00 p.m. EAT)

Deadline for RSVPs: Monday, December 2, 2013

Brief description of call: As the largest and among the most rapidly growing East African economies, Kenya offers many attractive investment opportunities for U.S. companies. The energy sector in particular, with up to 10 billion barrels in potential hydrocarbon reserves waiting to be discovered and developed and an ambitious government plan to build up 5000 Megawatts of power generation and transmission capacity over the next 40 months, could be especially attractive areas for American firms that wish to do more business in Africa.

This teleconference will focus on doing business in Kenya and on opportunities for U.S. firms, particularly in the energy sector. Ambassador Godec will host the call and provide an introduction, which will be followed by an interactive question and answer session. The Ambassador will be joined by USAID Director Karen Freeman, Econ Counselor David Renz, Francis “Chip” Peters (FCS), and Mike Carrato (USAID).
