Host: Deputy Chief of Mission Brian L. Goldbeck

Date, time, time zone for call: Monday, August 19, 2013; 7:00 p.m. EDT (August 20, 2013; 7:00 a.m. local)

Deadline for RSVPs: Thursday, August 15, 2013

Brief description of call: In 2013, the Philippine government expanded its infrastructure budget to record levels. In the first half of 2013 alone, infrastructure spending increased 45% to US$1.75 billion. In June, President Aquino approved another US$1.75 billion to fund four new projects under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) program. New construction includes roads, irrigation systems, educational facilities, hospitals, and health centers. Demand is expected to grow further as the Philippines continues to invest heavily in infrastructure improvement and expansion in order to become more competitive with its neighbors. Rapid urbanization and population growth will only likely increase Philippine infrastructure needs, especially in power, roads, airports, and water. Deputy Chief of Mission Brian L. Goldbeck will be joined by the Honorable Secretary Rogelio L. Singson of the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), who will share his insight and talk about upcoming opportunities. Along with members of the Embassy’s economic team, DCM Goldbeck and Secretary Singson will tell all about the exciting opportunities in the Philippine infrastructure sector.
