Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Civil Society and Emerging Democracies Dr. Tomicah Tillemann will travel to Budapest, Hungary June 11-12 to speak at the launch of the Tom Lantos Institute’s public lecture series “From the Courtroom to the Street: Creating a Popular Culture of Human Rights.” Dr. Tillemann will deliver a lecture entitled, “Democracy, Rights, and the Rule of Law: the Lessons of Transition.” He will also meet with Hungarian officials and civil society leaders.

Dr. Tillemann will then travel to Wrocław, Poland June 13-15 to participate in the Wrocław Global Forum 2013, where he will speak on a panel entitled, “Growing Democracy: The Future of US-European Cooperation” alongside former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski, Freedom House President David Kramer, and Executive Director Jerzy Pomianowski of the European Endowment for Democracy. In addition to meeting with several governmental and civil society partners, Dr. Tillemann will present the Atlantic Council’s Freedom Award to the European Humanities University of Belarus, headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania.
