Robert Hormats, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, hosted the 10th Round of the U.S.-China Economic Development and Reform Dialogue June 7, 2013, at the State Department in Washington, D.C. The Chinese delegation was led by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Executive Vice Chairman Zhu Zhixin and also included National Energy Administration Deputy Administrator Liu Qi. The U.S. side included participation from the Departments of State, Commerce, Treasury, Energy, Agriculture, and Health and Human Services; the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative; the National Security Staff; the Council of Economic Advisers; and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. The objective of the dialogue is to foster increased exchanges on economic, energy, and environment issues between the State Department and other U.S. government agencies and the NDRC, which serves as China’s premier economic planning agency. This year’s dialogue focused on recent macroeconomic developments, the evolution of the health care and elder care industries, and the role of natural gas in energy security. Outcomes from the dialogue sessions will feed into other bilateral economic forums, including the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) and the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT).
