Arulanantham - State Dept Image David Arulanantham joined the Foreign Service in June 2005 and is working on the Philippines desk where he covers domestic politics, economics, rule of law, and counterterrorism. From 2010-2012, he served as a foreign policy advisor at the U.S. military’s Pacific Command and before that as a political officer in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he covered the Rohingya refugees, human rights, and labor issues. His first tour was at the U.S. consulate in Vancouver, Canada.

Originally from Sri Lanka, David grew up in California and considers Palo Alto, California home. He has a master's in international relations from Oxford University and a bachelor's in international relations and political science from Stanford University, where he is still involved in public service and mentoring initiatives.

David has lived and traveled in South Asia and Europe. He speaks French, Tamil, and Bengali, and is a diehard Lakers fan.
