Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen J. Rapp will travel to Ottawa, Canada February 28-March 1, 2013.

In Ottawa, Ambassador Rapp will be participating in a number of events on February 28, hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Prevention of Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity, in partnership with the Canadian International Council. Each event will focus on building institutional capacity for the prevention of mass atrocities. Ambassador Rapp will discuss the United States efforts towards preventing mass atrocities via the Atrocities Prevention Board.

The planned events will reach out to the parliamentary, academic, and civil society communities. The Ambassador will speak on the Atrocities Prevention Board at three panel discussions. The parliamentary discussion will take place at the Parliament of Canada from 7:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The academic discussion is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Carleton University. Ambassador Rapp will then attend a discussion with civil society representatives at the Sheraton Hotel from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On March 1, Ambassador Rapp will attend a number of meetings with Canadian officials to discuss global criminal justice issues and efforts to ensure accountability for those who commit mass atrocities.
