Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) William R. Brownfield will travel to Roswell, New Mexico to participate in a graduation ceremony at the International Law Enforcement Training Academy (ILEA) and to sign a partnership agreement with New Mexico Attorney General Gary K. King.

On November 16, more than 30 students from Botswana, Tanzania, and Zambia will graduate from a four-week long ILEA program focusing on transnational organized crime and criminal justice topics. INL supports five ILEAs around the world: Budapest, Bangkok, Gaborone, Roswell, and San Salvador; and a Regional Training Center in Lima. ILEAs provide high-quality training and technical assistance, support institution building and enforcement capability, and foster regional relationships among law enforcement agencies.

INL looks forward to working with Attorney General King to promote the rule of law in friendly nations around the world. Attorney General King has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at improving cooperation between U.S. and Mexican authorities. The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs now has formal and informal partnerships with more than 50 state and local entities around the United States. Each state and local partner receives specialized training from the Department of State and develops key relationships for its hometown community. These partnerships enable INL to utilize the knowledge and expertise of active serving police officers, corrections officials, and legal professionals, including judges and prosecutors, to train, advise, and mentor foreign officials as part of the Department’s numerous foreign assistance programs.
