Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne C. Richard will lead the U.S. delegation to the High Level Meeting of the OCHA Donor Support Group to be held in Norway, June 11-13, 2012. Other members of the U.S. delegation include Paula Schriefer, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department’s International Organization Affairs Bureau and Jon Brause, USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance.

OCHA is responsible within the UN Secretariat for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent and coordinated response to emergencies. The OCHA Donor Support Group is an informal body that provides financial and technical support towards fulfilling OCHA’s mandated coordination activities. The meetings will focus, in part, on the following topics:

  • A global overview of the humanitarian situation and the challenges ahead;
  • Strategic partnerships and creating a more inclusive humanitarian system; and
  • Accountability for results.

In fiscal year 2011 the United States contributed $34.8 million to OCHA. The OCHA Donor Support Group currently comprises Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada,

Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway (Chair), Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States and the European Commission. Members commit to annual funding of a minimum threshold (currently $500,000).
