Date: 05/16/2012 Description: Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2012: Joy Yamamura - State Dept Image Joy Yamamura joined the Foreign Service in 2010 and currently serves as assistant general services officer at the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ms. Yamamura served as Director of Operations for the New School for Social Research in New York City from January 2008 through March 2010. She also served as Director of Operations at the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), a nonprofit organization, in Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine from 2006 through 2008. Prior to that, she served as Resident Director at the CIEE Study Center at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan from 2003 through 2006.

Ms. Yamamura was born in Santa Cruz, California and raised in Torrance, California. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics and music from Boston College, and a master of science degree in public administration and public policy from the London School of Economics. She is fluent in Japanese.
