Banks - State Dept Image Dana Banks currently serves as public affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. She comes to Tanzania from various assignments in Washington, D.C., recently serving in Secretary Clinton's Executive Secretariat as Acting Deputy Director, as a senior watch officer in the Operations Center, special assistant to the Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, and as a desk officer in the Office of West African Affairs.

Her overseas postings include political officer at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince, Haiti and vice consul and assistant cultural affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

She entered the Foreign Service in 1999 and received her undergraduate degree in political science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and a graduate degree in international relations from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. She speaks French, Haitian Creole, and Thai and hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
