Date: 02/01/2012 Description: Black History Month 2012: Ruth Murphy - State Dept ImageRuth Murphy is a Senior Advisor for Technical Meetings in the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC) with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) at the Department of State. She has been with the Department for six years. Ruth has more than 18 years experience in the meetings and event management industry and currently serves as the subject matter expert and principal point of contact for local, regional, and international technical meetings within OGAC. She works closely with interagency collages (within both domestic and global USG programs) on a number of high-profile events. When organizing international meetings and conferences, Ruth represents PEPFAR as the first staff person on-the-ground liaising with U.S. Embassy staff and high-level government officials involved in the global HIV/AIDS response. Ruth also serves as contracting officer’s representative (COR) overseeing logistical contracts within OGAC.

Prior to the Department of State, Ruth served as project manager with B L Seamon Corporation and senior planner with Northrop Grumman Information Technology. Throughout her career, Ruth has also held various meeting management positions in associations and consulting firms across the metropolitan DC area.

Ruth holds a bachelor's degree in health services management and a master's in communications and public relations from the University of Maryland and is a certified meeting professional. Ruth is originally from Barbados. In her spare time, Ruth enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
