Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 2011: Yelipza Gutierrez
Yelipza Gutierrez was born in Lima, Peru. At the age of 14, her family moved from Lima to Miami. She stayed in Florida to earn a bachelor of science in criminal justice and a master of public administration at Florida International University where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA!
Five months ago she moved to Virginia after accepting a position in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor where she conducts human rights vetting of foreign security forces receiving U.S. security assistance and serves as vetting coordinator for the offices of Europe and Africa in DRL. Yelipza also serves as specialist to interpret Leahy law for overseas post, desk officers, and DRL.
In her spare time, when she’s not fighting the good fight for DRL, she likes to spend time with her friends and family in Miami, play tennis, take dance classes, and go out to eat.
