U.S. Department of State Celebrates Relocation of Seattle Passport Agency
Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy, along with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services Brenda S. Sprague, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m. to mark the official relocation of the Seattle Passport Agency. Invited guests include Members of Congress, state and local officials, community leaders, and members of the media.
The new facility will better accommodate customers in downtown Seattle at 300 Fifth Avenue, Suite 600. The Seattle Passport Agency is the first tenant in the new building, which achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Conveniently located to public transportation and parking, the new facility has a larger public area and more service windows.
The agency opened just in time to host Passport Day in the USA on Saturday, September 17. Passport Day in the USA is an annual event that gives customers the convenient option of applying for U.S. passports at regional passport agencies without an appointment.
The Seattle Passport Agency has served travelers in the Pacific Northwest since 1959, issuing passport books and cards to U.S. citizens who have emergencies or who plan to travel within 14 days. In fiscal year 2010, the Agency’s 77 employees issued more than 300,000 passports, including serving nearly 23,000 customers at its public counters.
The agency is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, except federal holidays. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 1-877-487-2778 or TDD/TTY: 1-888-874-7793. Passport information, including fees and application instructions, is available at http://travel.state.gov.
Media attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony will have an opportunity to tour the facility and conduct interviews with Under Secretary Kennedy and other passport officials.
