QUESTION: Please provide a read-out of the meeting with the Pakistani ambassador to the U.S. Did they discuss possible Pakistani involvement in yesterday’s Mumbai bombings?
ANSWER: Ambassador Benjamin met with Ambassador Haqqani to discuss our efforts to build Pakistan’s civilian law enforcement capacity. He also thanked the ambassador for Pakistani President Zardari’s and PM Gilani’s statements deploring the Mumbai bombings.
