Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will host a day-long high-level meeting to announce the Open Government Partnership at the Department of State on July 12, 2011, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Click here for more information on the Open Government Partnership.

Credentialed members of the media will have several opportunities to cover the events on July 12: the opening session with remarks by Secretary Clinton, a plenary panel discussion, a tour of the “Innovation Alley” exhibit hall and the closing reception hosted by Secretary Clinton. Media access details are as follows:

OPENING SESSION

8:30 a.m. Secretary Clinton and Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota deliver remarks at the Opening Session, in the Loy Henderson Auditorium at the Department of State.

PLENARY PANEL

9:00 a.m. A plenary panel discussion highlights key innovations in open government from around the world, in the Loy Henderson Auditorium at the Department of State.

INNOVATION ALLEY

10:15 a.m. Senior Advisor for Innovation Alec Ross leads a media tour of “Innovation Alley,” in the Exhibit Hall at the Department of State. The “Innovation Alley” exhibit includes a set of interactive displays demonstrating technology and other tools and methodologies available from private and non-profit companies and organizations to enhance open government.

Media covering the opening session should gather outside the Loy Henderson or in the exhibit hall immediately after the plenary session concludes.

CLOSING RECEPTION

7:00 p.m. Secretary Clinton hosts a closing reception for the inaugural Open Government Partnership meetings, at the Department of State.

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a new international initiative aimed at securing concrete commitments from governments, in partnership with civil society, to promote transparency, increase civic participation, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. OGP is overseen by a steering committee that includes a diverse coalition of governments and civil society organizations and is co-chaired in its inaugural year by Brazilian Minister of State, Head of the Office of the Comptroller General Jorge Hage Sobrinho and Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero.
