Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Esther Brimmer participated in a panel discussion entitled, The Role and Relevance of Multilateral Diplomacy in U.S. Foreign Policy, hosted by the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) on January 11, 2011. Alongside Representative Russ Carnahan (D-MO) and Brett Schaeffer of the Heritage Foundation, Assistant Secretary Brimmer outlined the Obama Administration’s multilateral priorities and underscored the need for the U.S. to remain engaged into the future. Mr. Schaefer and Representative Carnahan followed with their perspectives on the challenges in and effectiveness of multilateral diplomacy. The panel was moderated by Retired Foreign Service Officer, Molly Williamson, who served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs from 1996-99.
