Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Jose W. Fernandez, Director of Policy Planning Anne-Marie Slaughter and USAID Scientific Director of Development Innovation Ventures Michael Kremer will participate in a roundtable discussion on “New Paradigms in U.S. Development Policy” hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) on January 12 from 12:00-1:30 pm in Washington, D.C.

The meeting will focus on the new development approach set forth in the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR). Participants will discuss the need to mobilize and implement innovative approaches to meet current development challenges and will outline several ideas, such as applying sound structured finance techniques that utilize remittance flows to secure lower cost development financing; utilizing capital markets products to promote financial inclusion and tying transparency and civil institution reforms directly to domestic revenue mobilization for development finance.
