NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 23 – President Barack Obama addressed the 192 members of the United Nations during the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. In his remarks, the President talked about what his Administration has done to confront global challenges; the critical importance of pursuing peace in the Middle East; and the kind of world we must try to build in the 21st century. 1,000 Days: Change a Life, Change the Future
NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 -- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Micheal Martin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, hosted a panel discussion highlighting the 1,000 Days: Change a Life, Change the Future initiative. The goal of the initiative is to reduce child undernutrition. The initiative targets the crucial 1,000 day period of a child’s life – beginning with the mother’s pre-natal care and continuing until a child is 2 years old.
Other panelists included Mr. Muhtar Kent, Chairman and President of Coca-Cola; Ms. Maria Eitel, President of Nike Foundation; Mr. Tom Arnold, Chief Executive of Concern Worldwide; and Mr. David Beckmann, President of Bread for the World.

Secretary Clinton Announces Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves
NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced the creation of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves during remarks at a gathering of the Clinton Global Initiative. The Global Alliance is a new public-private partnership led by the United Nations Foundation to create a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions that will save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women, and combat climate change.
