Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
August 29, 2010

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Kyrgyz Republic on your Independence Day on August 31. The United States was among the first nations to recognize the Kyrgyz Republic’s independence 19 years ago, and our friendship and partnership have grown steadily.

The people of the Kyrgyz Republic have faced many challenges this year that will require great determination to resolve. During these difficult times, the partnership between our countries is all the more crucial as we work together to return stability, democracy, and national unity to the Kyrgyz Republic in the months ahead.

I wish all the people of the Kyrgyz Republic a safe and joyous day of national celebration with the sincere hope that the coming year will bring peace, progress, and national reconciliation.
