Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Melanne Verveer, will travel to Afghanistan August 8-11 to demonstrate support for the women of Afghanistan and their efforts to advance peace and continue the political, social and economic progress in their country. She will focus on women’s political inclusion as Afghanistan embarks on its new reintegration process and on women’s security and participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Building on Secretary Clinton’s recent visit, Ambassador Verveer will meet with Afghan leadership; women from across Afghanistan’s vibrant civil society and representatives of the business sector to discuss a range of issues from rule of law to economic empowerment. She will be announcing a new public-private partnership on women’s income generation as well as a health initiative.
