Counternarcotics and Law Enforcement Country Program: Bangladesh

Key U.S. Program Goals:

The 1207 community-policing project will support developing a community-focused police service that will increase the institutional capacity of the police to fight security threats and promote principles of human rights and democracy..

Program Components/Accomplishments:

• The community-policing project will be launched in 2010 and will support establishing a community-policing model in the Rajshahi Division of northeastern Bangladesh. The project will train officers to improve policing skills and foster developing police-community partnerships in addressing security concerns.
  
  
• INL anticipates supporting the provision of an appropriate legal advisor to provide technical assistance and capacity building of authorities to improve aspects of Bangladesh’s security and justice systems.
  

Funding FY 2009:

• FY 2009 – $200,000 (INCLE) + $5,171,250 (1207) = $5,371,250
