Mexico: Border Patrol Incident in Juarez (Taken Question)
QUESTION: What is your reaction to reports that a U.S. Border Patrol agent shot and killed a Mexican teenage boy in Juarez?
ANSWER: We understand that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents responded on June 7 to a group of suspected illegal immigrants from Mexico near the Paso del Norte Port of Entry (El Paso, TX).
The agents were reportedly assaulted with rocks by an unknown number of people. During the assault, an agent discharged his firearm, killing one of the suspects.
We regret the loss of life.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has jurisdiction when a federal officer has been assaulted, and is investigating the incident in coordination with El Paso Police Department, Customs and Border Protection Internal Affairs, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General.
