Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
May 31, 2010

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Independent State of Samoa on the 48th anniversary of your nation’s independence on June 1. I also offer warm wishes to Samoans in the United States and around the world. As Pacific neighbors, the United States and Samoa enjoy a warm partnership based on mutual respect and mutual interest. We look forward to another year marked by cooperation on combating climate change, spurring economic development, and promoting deeper cultural ties. We wish Samoa continued progress toward recovery from last year’s devastating tsunami, and pledge sustained support from the people and government of the United States. Best wishes and happy Independence Day!
