Congratulations, Poland, on the anniversary of your first constitution. The United States celebrates this day with you and commemorates the establishment of Europe’s first constitution. The quest for freedom, human rights, and the rule of law that inspired Poland’s leaders 219 years ago is still evident in your vibrant democracy.

The United States is proud to call Poland one of our closest friends and allies. Poland today is a beacon of freedom and liberty with a bright future, and our strong partnership will continue to grow as we confront many of the world’s greatest challenges together.

Your people and your nation are strong and resilient, as the world saw in the wake of the tragic plane crash that took the life of your President and many other distinguished citizens. The United States mourns your loss alongside you, even as we celebrate your accomplishments.

Please accept our warmest wishes as you celebrate your National Day and the landmark May 3rd Constitution.
