Swati Patel is a Foreign Service Officer currently assigned to the Western Hemisphere Affairs/Office of Mexican Affairs. Her portfolio is law enforcement liaison work and homeland security and consular policy matters for U.S. and Mexico bilateral relationship.

Ms. Patel joined the Foreign Service in November 2003 as a public diplomacy-coned officer and served her first tour at the U.S. Embassy in Honduras as a consular – political/military officer. She then worked as a consul for the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai.

Prior to joining the State Department, Ms. Patel worked as a district adjudication officer for the Department of Justice/Immigration and Naturalization Service and continued working in the same capacity with Department of Homeland Security/Citizenship and Immigration Services. She started her first job out of college with the Federal Government at the Social Security Administration.

Ms. Patel has a B.A. in International Relations, with concentrations in Health and the Developing World, and a minor in Political Science. She is a native speaker of Gujarati and also speaks, at varying levels, Spanish and Hindi.
