Welcome, bienvenidos, bem-vindos, bienvenues to Western Hemisphere Affairs page on state.gov. My name is Arturo Valenzuela, and I am the Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere Affairs. The Americas has a profound impact economically, culturally and demographically on the United States. As you look around our page, you’ll find a wealth of information on our site reflecting U.S. relationships with the countries of the Americas. You’ll also find the latest on Secretary Clinton’s and my own travels throughout the region, as well as background on some of our key priorities in the hemisphere, including citizen safety, strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law, economic and social inclusion, and energy, climate change, and issues like that.

The best part of this page? We have built in several ways to hear from you directly. We want your feedback, questions and ideas on what is happening in the Americas and the role that the State Department is playing. You can connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and DipNote, State’s official blog. We also invite you to check out our growing still photo and video catalogs on Flickr and YouTube.

So I invite you to look around our page, learn to join the conversation with us on U.S. diplomacy in the Americas. We find ourselves in a very promising moment in the Americas. I think you’ll discover that the content of our site reflects both the opportunities and challenges we face. Thank you for your interest and, again, welcome to our website.
