The Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization (S/CRS), Ambassador John Herbst, will brief the media on Monday March 1, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the State Department Press Briefing Room (Room 2209), on the S/CRS 2009 Year in Review. The briefing will cover the development of the U.S. Government’s reconstruction tools, equipment and expertise, and the creation and development of the Civilian Response Corps.

Other topics for discussion will include:

  • The implementation of Secretary Clinton’s goal of “smart power” in U.S. reconstruction and stabilization missions
  • The role of conflict prevention and stabilization in foreign policy and national security decisions
  • The newest developments in civilian-military coordination utilizing all U.S. Government resources
  • Past and current U.S. Government civilian deployments in countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Sudan

This on-the-record, on-camera briefing is open for press coverage. Members of the press who do not have a State Department building pass should arrive at the 23rd Street entrance by 12:45 p.m. for clearance through security and access to the briefing room. Media representatives may attend this briefing upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
