Media Note
Office of the Spokesman
Washington, DC
February 16, 2010

The Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (WHA) recently launched several social media platforms and is actively engaging a broad, cross-cutting audience on our activities and initiatives in the Americas. We invite you to join the conversation on our efforts to increase competitiveness for citizens of the Americas, provide for our citizens’ safety, “green” our hemisphere through energy and climate change policies, and strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law throughout the region.

WHA’s Facebook page gives users access to the latest information regarding the State Department’s activities and relationships in the Western Hemisphere. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Arturo Valenzuela is tweeting daily and posting to State’s DipNote blog weekly, providing personal reflections on the bureau’s priorities, his travels and the latest in the Americas. The Bureau also has a photo stream on Flickr and a Videos from the Americas playlist on YouTube that includes information relating to the U.S. role in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.

Through these various platforms, your comments, suggestions and ideas will serve to strengthen our already robust relationships with neighbors in the region.
