J. Nathan Bland began his career with the U.S. Department of State as an intern at the Foreign Service Institute. He then returned as a Presidential Management Fellow assigned to the Public Affairs Office for the East Asia and Pacific Affairs Bureau.

He joined the Foreign Service in 2006 and served his first tour as a consular officer posted at the U.S. Consulate in Shenyang, China. He is now serving as the public affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See.

Mr. Bland, a native of Louisiana, graduated from Louisiana College in December 2000 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He then went to Xinjiang, China to teach English for 1 1/2 years before returning to attend graduate school at Seton Hall University's School of Diplomacy and International Relations. He graduated from Seton Hall with a M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations and an M.A. in Asian Studies.
