Today, Chilean Finance Minister Andrés Velasco and Angel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), signed an accession agreement in Santiago, Chile. Once the agreement is ratified by Chile’s congress, Chile will become the 31st member of the OECD. Chile is the second country in Latin America to become a member of the OECD, joining Mexico, which acceded in 1994.

The United States congratulates the Chilean people on this impressive achievement, and looks forward to continuing our cooperation with Chile on critical issues in the OECD and elsewhere in the coming year.
