Mary Ellen T. Gilroy (MEG) is a Public Diplomacy Officer in the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor. She is currently serving as a Senior Inspector for Public Diplomacy, Political and Economic Affairs, and EEO with the Office of the Inspector General.

From 2004 to 2007, Ms. Gilroy served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d’affaires, at the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean in Bridgetown. Prior to that, she served in Washington as Director of the State Department’s Office of Caribbean Affairs (2002-2004), and in Ottawa (Country Public Affairs Officer 1999-2002), Port-au-Prince (PAO 1996-1999 and Junior Officer Trainee 1984-1985), Port Louis (PAO 1991-1993), Kuala Lumpur (Information Officer 1987-1991) and Rabat (Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer/Center Director 1985-1987). She also served as the United States Information Agency Desk Officer for Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei (1993-1995).

A native of New York City, before joining the U.S. Information Agency in May 1983, Ms. Gilroy worked for The Asia Society and on several Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild of America, the Public Relations Society of America, and Executive Women in Government. She received a BA, summa cum laude, in Theatre from Fordham University. She speaks French and Haitian Creole and studied Spanish and Bahasa Malaysia.
