Thank you for your interest in the Secretary’s International Fund for Women and Girls. Investing in women and girls is one of the most powerful forces in international development. It is an investment in peace, security, democracy, and prosperity. If we leave untapped the potential of half of the world’s population, we will never succeed in creating a safer, more prosperous, more democratic and stable world.

Research demonstrates that investments in women positively correlate with the general prosperity of nations. Women are proven drivers of GDP, and when they are able to gain access to the tools that they need, from skills training to education to market access and credit, they can make an enormous difference.

All around the world, women are blazing new trails and triumphing over long-entrenched obstacles, resulting in major advancements to the development agenda and global progress. The Secretary’s Fund supports these efforts by providing high-impact grants to community-based organizations working to meet the critical needs of women and girls around the world. The Fund will leverage the resources and knowledge of the public and private sectors and invest in efficient and innovative solutions to combat violence against women and girls, improve their health and education, promote their participation in climate change solutions, and create economic and political opportunities for them.

Women’s empowerment is central to our foreign policy and to the cause of freedom. We cannot tackle the great challenges of our time, from human rights to national security, environmental threats, and the global economy, without the participation of women and girls at all levels of society. To do otherwise is to hold back one of the most powerful and positive forces we have for improving our world. Women’s rights are human rights – we cannot settle for anything less.

I hope you will raise your voice and join our efforts to promote women’s leadership around the globe. I encourage you to contact Pamela Reeves, Senior Advisor to the Secretary’s Fund, to talk about ways we can work together to realize the untapped potential of women all over the world. Together, we can create a better world for us all.
